About Your Appointment
UW Medicine Northwest Primary Care believes in the value of preventative services. Preventative exams are an important part of providing high quality care to ensure our patients remain healthy. Northwest Primary Care is confident you will be satisfied in the care we provide when choosing one of our five primary care clinics.
When Scheduling an Appointment
To schedule an appointment, please call 206-545-9300.
When you make your appointment, let the scheduler know the nature of your health concerns. If you have numerous concerns, you may need more time than is allotted for a standard visit. We may be able to offer a longer appointment time — ask if a longer appointment time is available if you think you’ll need it.
We request new patients to arrive 15 minutes early in order to complete our new patient forms and complete the registration process. Valid Washington state picture identification is required.
If you are a current patient and have an urgent or emergent issue that requires assistance from our on-call physician, please use our main number and follow the audio prompts to be connected with our answering service. The answering service will page the doctor, who will respond to you within 30 minutes. We encourage you to write down your concerns before calling so you don’t forget to tell us anything, and have your pharmacy name and number available. Please be aware we do not refill narcotic prescriptions over the weekend. We ask that you inform your physician 24 hours prior to the weekend if you need a narcotic refill.
Canceling & Rescheduling Your Appointment
If you need to reschedule or must miss an appointment, please call us at least one business day before your appointment. Please note there may be a $50.00 service charge billed to your account for late cancellation or no-show.
Northwest Primary Care patients who are in need of hospitalization will be admitted to Northwest Hospital & Medical Center unless requested otherwise.
Your insurance will be charged depending on the type of your visit: Preventive and/or Medical Condition. Charges for services are according to the visit type that appears in your medical record. Please do not ask your healthcare provider/physician or clinic to change the type of service billed if your insurance company denies payment. Patients are responsible for payment if your insurance refuses to pay for the visit.
Routine healthcare that includes check-ups, patient counseling and screenings to prevent illness, disease and other health-related concerns are considered preventive services. Services generally considered to be preventive services are listed below:
- Annual wellness and preventive healthcare services such as annual exams, screenings for cholesterol, cancer, high blood pressure, and sexually transmitted diseases
- Physicals, including annual exams, routine gynecology care, and contraception
- Well child visits
- Most screening lab tests (customary tests associated with a physical)
- Most immunizations – possible exceptions include shingles vaccine (Zostervax) if under age 60, and travel vaccines
- Many cancer screenings, including mammograms and colonoscopies (coverage of these services is typically based on age, gender, and health status)
Please note that the physical examination may be rescheduled for another day if you have scheduled a preventive visit but the visit is primarily for diagnosing and treating new problems.
Services that are for the diagnosis and treatment of new problems or illness will be considered a medical condition service (not a preventive service) and may be applied to the deductible.
- Chronic care management, such as asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, and headaches
- Treatment of acute illnesses, such as flu, abdominal pain, and bladder infections
- Care for skin problems, such as rashes, warts, and acne
- Treatment for depression, anxiety, and stress-related illness
- Opiate dependence treatment with Suboxone
If the provider and patient determine both types of visits are required, your insurance may be charged for both a preventive service and for a medical condition service. Your insurance may require two copayments-one for the preventive service and one for the medical condition service.
Labs and Other Tests
Billing for lab tests is separate from the billing for your office visit. Lab tests include blood work, urine testing, pap smears, biopsies, and other tests.
