Alexander Gougoutas, M.D., is a plastic surgeon at UW Medicine's Reconstructive Surgery Center in the Division of plastic surgery.

Dr. Gougoutas believes each patient is unique with unique needs. He feels the surgeon-patient relationship extends well beyond the confines of an operating room, and that patience, compassion, listening and patient education are paramount to this relationship.

Dr. Gougoutas earned his M.D. at the University of Pennsylvania. His clinical expertise includes breast and lower extremity reconstruction, reconstructive and aesthetic facial surgery, general reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and body contouring. His research interests include improving patient outcomes and satisfaction following breast reconstruction.

Dr. Gougoutas is involved with many aspects of medical student education. He mentors residents wishing to get involved in clinical research and gives lectures to residents on a regular basis.
