Upper Extremity Hand & Arm Program
The hand program includes assessment and treatment of hands and arms following
orthopedic injury, stroke, or other neurological conditions. Treatment may include
soft tissue mobilization and exercises to improve strength and coordination.
Heat, ice, or stimulation may be used to decrease pain and /or increase joint
movement. Custom splinting services may also be provided for rest and protection
of joints or to gain flexibility and movement.
Common hand and arm diagnoses include fractures, arthritis, tendonitis, carpal
tunnel syndrome, nerve and tendon injuries, or weakness of an arm or hand following
a stroke. Emphasis of all hand therapy is on improving function and prevention
of future injury. The program involves assessments by Occupational Therapists.
