Northwest Hospital Earns American Stroke Association’s Gold Plus Award

Northwest Hospital & Medical Center recently received the American Stroke Association's Gold Plus Award for outstanding specialized stroke treatment. The AHA's "Get With the Guidelines" (GWTG) designation indicates that stroke assessment and services at the hospital provide patients with highest level of evidence based care Hospitals receiving the GWTG Gold Plus Performance Award have achieved a goal of achieving 85 percent or higher compliance to core standard levels of stroke care, as outlined by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for 24 consecutive months and an additional "plus" award for achievement in five other stroke care standards.

Northwest Hospital is certified as Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. The program provides comprehensive care for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the Northwest Hospital Emergency Department. This includes state-of-the-art brain imaging and complete evaluations by a multidisciplinary team made up of specialists in neurology, emergency medicine, interventional radiology, and medical rehabilitation.

"Northwest Hospital is proud to receive the AHA's Gold Plus award for quality stroke treatment from two well respected national organizations," Northwest Hospital CEO Bill Schneider said. "This program is successful because of our care providers who team up from different departments throughout out hospital system. Our teams work together to make a positive impact on the stroke patients we treat and make it possible for our programs to be recognized with distinctions like the AHA award."

Stroke can be a life-altering occurrence. Northwest Hospital's Stroke Program offers a comprehensive approach to treating the disease, mobilizing a highly-specialized, multi-disciplinary team that follows the patient from the first intervention in the emergency room through to rehabilitation. In addition to American Stroke Association recognitions, the program has earned five-star ratings from HealthGrades® for the past eight years.
