Janelle Sousa, M.D., is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at UW Medicine's Reconstructive Surgery Center.
Dr. Sousa believes that each patient must be treated individually. Especially for cancer reconstruction, the surgical plan must be tailored to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of the patient. Dr. Sousa focuses on engaging with patients to learn about their goals and values, and provide an excellent outcome both functionally and aesthetically.
Dr. Sousa provides reconstructive surgery for oncologic conditions, lymphatic surgery and facial re-animation, and is part of the transplant team in the Vascularized Composite Allograft program. Dr. Sousa earned her M.D. from the UW.
Dr. Sousa's clinical interests include oncologic reconstruction including breast cancer, sarcoma, melanoma and other cancers, as well as lymphedema, and peripheral nerve reconstruction including facial reanimation. Her research interests include lymphedema treatment and outcomes and breast reconstruction outcomes.
